BRITTAS BAY has been selected as the scene for a sporting triathlon to raise funds for the Niall Mellon Township and organisers are looking for some County Wicklow competitors to take part.
The triathlon can be taken as a whole or as a team with members relaying from sport-to-sport. It begins with a 1.5m swim, then a 40km cycle and culminates with a 10k run. This is the 11th year Sporting Proud are running the event, which will raise funds to build a school hall in the township of Wallacedene, Cape Town, South Africa.
An average of 200 participants usually take part, most of whom have never completed a triathlon before. To enter as an individual costs €300 and €1,000 to enter as a three man team. These are targets and people can exceed these amounts if they choose and raise much more.
The event takes place on Saturday, September 5th. Those interested in taking part can register at www.sportingproud.org or they can contact the Niall Mellon Township Trust on (01) 494 8200.
