Brittas Bay store celebrates 12 months of successful trading

XL Stop and Shop

IT WAS exactly 12 months ago today (Tuesday) local brother and sister team Suzanne Brennan and Denis Vickers opened the doors of the XL Stop and Shop at Brittas Bay for trading.

"We had been thinking about it (going into business) for a good while. I asked my brother Denis would he come in with me and he agreed," Suzanne explained. Over the past 12 months the Wick-low Town natives have worked hard to provide quality goods and friendly service to both locals and visitors alike in what has become a real family business. Brother David has provided invaluable help and input to the business while other family members have been busy working behind the scenes.

"We had a lot of support from the local people, particularly the fact the shop was done up completely. People were very impressed," Suzanne commented. "We are really family-orientated."

Celebrating the store's first birthday is positive news in the current economic doom and gloom, a fact Suzanne is quick to acknowledge. "It was tough going but we got there. It was hard work but it paid off," she commented.

And the family has worked hard to ensure the store continues to provide its customers with everything they expect from a local store.

The XL BB Mini Market offers plenty of free parking for its customers as well as an excellent selection of everything from wine to newspapers, confectionary to everyday grocery items.

Choose from quality meats including steaks, pork chops, chicken fillets, cooked ham and turkey, as well as dainty and country baking, fresh baguettes and croissants baked daily.

There is also a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The store's hot deli is perfect for breakfast on the run or a delicious lunch snack, providing breakfast rolls, spicy wedges and other delicious hot treats.

The store also caters for the area's summertime visitors with a range of toys for the beach and seven-day trade. Many customers take advantage of the picnic benches on the well-kept green near the store, pausing to read the morning paper or enjoy a cup of tea in the summer sunshine.

A delivery service is also available for those looking for a gas cylinder for a summer barbecue, or for coal and fuel for the winter.
